Clear Channel Outdoor Gets CFIUS Nod for Mubadala Capital Deal
Clear Channel Outdoor secured U.S. national security clearance for its acquisition by Mubadala Capital, with the deal set to close around Oct. 14, 2026.
Clear Channel Outdoor Holdings (NYSE: CCO) announced Tuesday it has received clearance from the Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States for its planned acquisition by Mubadala Capital, removing a key regulatory hurdle for the transaction.
CFIUS review is a mandatory step for foreign entities seeking to acquire U.S. businesses in sectors deemed sensitive to national security. The panel's approval signals that federal authorities found no disqualifying concerns with Mubadala Capital, an Abu Dhabi-based investment firm, taking control of one of America's largest out-of-home advertising companies.

The San Antonio-based company said the transaction is expected to close on or about October 14, 2026, suggesting the deal is in its final stages pending any remaining closing conditions. Clear Channel Outdoor operates thousands of billboards and digital display assets across the United States, making it a significant player in the outdoor advertising market.
The CFIUS clearance represents the culmination of what is typically a months-long national security review process. Foreign acquisitions of U.S. media and infrastructure-adjacent assets have drawn heightened scrutiny in recent years, adding significance to the committee's green light in this case.
